What is GBIS?
The Great British Insulation Scheme, formerly known as ECO+, is a new government energy efficiency initiative administered by Ofgem, designed to enhance the energy efficiency of the least efficient homes in Great Britain, addressing fuel poverty and reducing energy bills. The scheme targets low-income and vulnerable households, as well as those residing in homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G, and within Council Tax bands A-D in England and A-E in Scotland and Wales.
Complementing the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme, the Great British Insulation Scheme focuses primarily on single insulation measures rather than ECO4’s comprehensive 'whole house' approach, mandating medium and large energy companies to implement measures that lead to reduced energy consumption. The scheme commenced in April 2023 and is scheduled to conclude in April 2026.
