Solar panels, a battery and an EV charger in Romford, fitted in one day
On Friday 16 October 2026 we fitted 12 all-black DMEGC panels, a Fox ESS EP12 battery and a Fox ESS EV charger on a home in Romford, in a single day.
The panels sit on two faces of a hip roof. The battery and its hybrid inverter are on the side wall, and the car charger is on the outside wall.

Where the power goes in this Romford home
The panels feed one hybrid inverter. It runs the house first, fills the battery, charges the car, and only then sends anything to the grid.
The same roof, the same day
Tap to compare, both taken from the same corner of the scaffold. In the morning it was a bare tiled roof. By the end of the day the panels were on, clamped to rails fixed to the rafters, with no panel overhanging an edge.
How a solar, battery and charger install goes in one day
Five stages, one visit, one team. This is what we did on this Romford home.
-
1
Scaffold up, rails on
Roof hooks go under the tiles onto the rafters, then the aluminium rails the panels clamp to, set so every panel sits on one flat plane.
-
2
Twelve panels across two roof faces
The 470W DMEGC panels go on in rows, clamped at the edges, with bird-proofing mesh round the perimeter so pigeons cannot nest underneath.
-
3
Battery and inverter on the side wall
The Fox ESS KH7 hybrid inverter runs both the panels and the EP12 battery. They sit together on the side wall with an isolator beside them, cables clipped neatly up the render.
-
4
EV charger on the outside wall
A Fox ESS 7.3 kW charger, so the car can charge at home overnight on a cheaper tariff, run from the same app as the battery.
-
5
New consumer unit, tested and switched on
A new consumer unit with surge protection and a generation meter, then every circuit tested before the system was switched on and the app set up.
Why this setup suits a Romford family home
12 × DMEGC 470W, all-black
Black frames and black cells, so the array reads as one tidy block on a dark tiled roof.
AIKO vs LONGi vs DMEGC →Fox ESS EP12, 11.52 kWh
Enough to carry a family home through the evening and night, and it stacks if they want more later.
Fox ESS EP12 review →Fox ESS KH7 hybrid, 7 kW
One box that runs the panels and the battery together, with headroom for more storage.

Fitted the same day, by the same team, and run from the same app as the battery.

Thinking of the same for your home?
How long does it take to fit solar panels, a battery and an EV charger?
This Romford job took one day on site: scaffold and rails in the morning, panels, battery, inverter and charger through the day, then testing and switch-on.
Can solar panels go on a hip roof?
Yes. A hip roof has sloped ends instead of gables, so each face is smaller. On this home we used two faces to fit twelve panels, keeping every panel clear of the edges.
Can I add a battery and an EV charger at the same time as solar?
Yes, and it is the tidiest way to do it: one visit, one hybrid inverter for the panels and battery, one app for the battery and charger.
Who handles the paperwork?
We do: the MCS certificate for the solar panels, the DNO notification for the inverter and the electrical certificate. Nothing for the homeowner to fill in.
Do you fit solar panels in Romford?
Yes. We are based in Chadwell Heath, a short drive away, and fit across Romford, Harold Wood, Gidea Park and the rest of Havering. Solar panels in Romford →
